Why is my ceiling fan running slow?
On an AC fan, the usual cause is a weak capacitor. Capacitors lose value with heat and age, so the fan runs slowly on every setting and sometimes needs a push to start. A new capacitor takes about 30 minutes to fit, making it one of the cheapest fan repairs.
If the fan is slow on only some speeds, the wall regulator is the likely fault. On DC fans, slow running usually points to the control board or remote receiver.
How do I stop a ceiling fan wobbling?
A slight wobble is normal. A fan that shakes the canopy is not. Most wobbling comes from loose blade screws, a bent blade arm or uneven blades. We tighten everything, check each blade's angle and balance the set with clip-on weights if needed.
If the wobble comes from the mounting, the hook or bracket has worn. Stop using the fan until it is fixed, because a loose bracket is how ceiling fans fall.
Should I repair an old fan or replace it?
Repair is worth it for capacitor, regulator, remote and wiring faults, which cost RM120 to RM250. If the bearings are noisy on a fan over ten years old, or the motor winding has burnt out, a new fan is usually better value. We tell you on the spot.
