Can I charge my EV from a normal 13A socket?
Occasionally, as a backup, but not every day. Malaysian EV charging guidelines call for home charging through a Mode 3 wallbox on a dedicated circuit with RCD protection. The portable cable that comes with the car pulls about 10A for ten hours or more, which is hard on an ordinary socket.
A 7kW wallbox charges most EVs from 20% to 80% overnight in about 5 to 8 hours. Most let you schedule charging from an app, so the car charges after the evening aircond and cooking load drops.
How do I get EV charger approval in a condo?
Under the Strata Management Act 2013, you need written approval from your JMB or MC before installing a charger in the car park. Most buildings want a proposal showing the cable route, power source and charger model. We prepare the technical part for you.
Condo installs are quoted after a survey, because the cable run to your bay can be a few metres or over 100 metres. Newer condos with EV-ready parking are quicker and cheaper.
Is there tax relief for a home EV charger?
Yes. Individual taxpayers can claim relief of up to RM2,500 for buying, installing, renting or subscribing to EV charging facilities, extended to the 2027 year of assessment. Keep the invoices for the charger and installation, and check the latest LHDN guidance when you file.
