Why do sockets wear out?
The spring contacts inside a 13A socket lose their grip after years of use. A loose plug arcs slightly each time it moves, which heats the contact and browns the faceplate. Sockets behind beds and in kitchens wear fastest, and cheap unbranded ones can fail within two or three years.
We fit branded sockets that meet MS 589, the Malaysian standard for 13A sockets. We can match your existing brand and colour, or fit a designer range you bought at the labour rate.
Are USB sockets worth it?
A good one is safe and frees up plugs. Pick one with a SIRIM mark and at least 3A total output, or a USB-C PD port of 20W or more for fast charging. Cheap USB sockets run warm and can buzz.
USB sockets are deeper than standard ones, so older shallow back boxes sometimes need a deeper box first. That is included in our quote.
Should I change a socket myself?
It looks simple, but we regularly find DIY sockets with live and neutral swapped, the earth left unconnected or a terminal left loose. Any of these can cause a shock or a fire. At RM80 to RM120 per socket including the part, it is not worth the risk.
