Surface trunking or concealed wiring: which should I choose?
Surface trunking runs the cable in a white PVC channel along the wall. It costs RM150 to RM250 per power point, needs no hacking and is usually done in a few hours. It suits condos, rented homes and rooms you are not repainting.
Concealed wiring buries the cable in the wall so nothing shows. It costs RM250 to RM450 per point, plus plastering and painting, quoted separately. Choose it during a renovation, when the walls are being redone anyway.
When do I need a dedicated circuit?
Any appliance drawing more than about 2kW for long periods should have its own circuit: built-in ovens, induction hobs, aircons, water heaters and large dryers. Sharing with ordinary sockets is what trips MCBs and browns plug tops.
A dedicated circuit costs RM300 to RM500. A built-in oven typically needs a 20A circuit and a large induction hob a 32A circuit, with 4mm² or 6mm² cable sized to the load.
How many sockets does each room need?
We suggest at least two twin sockets per bedroom, three or four around the TV and study desk, and a twin socket for every metre or so of kitchen counter. Give the fridge, microwave and washer their own points.
Adding points in one visit is cheaper than one at a time. Send us a list of where you need them and we quote the whole set as one job.
