Signs you need db box replacement
- Rewireable ceramic fuses instead of MCB switches
- No RCCB, or an old ELCB from the 1980s
- No spare ways left for a new aircond or water heater circuit
- Brown marks, melted plastic or a hot smell around the board
- Breakers with no labels, so nobody knows which switch does what
- A cracked cover, or a board mounted in a damp spot

When should a DB box be replaced?
Replace it if it still has rewireable fuses, has no RCCB, shows heat damage or has no space for new circuits. Many 1970s and 80s terraces have boards sized for a handful of circuits, and doubling two cables under one terminal to add an aircond is a shortcut we often undo.
A board is also due when testing shows it, not the wiring, causes random tripping. Corroded busbars and loose terminals cause faults that are hard to trace and tend to get worse.
What goes inside a modern DB box?
A main switch, a 30mA RCCB for socket circuits, a 10mA RCCB for the water heater, and an MCB for each circuit: typically 6A or 10A for lights, 20A for sockets, and 20A or 32A for aircond and kitchen loads. We leave spare ways and label every breaker in plain words.
Condo boards are usually flush-mounted near the front door or kitchen. We choose an enclosure that fits the existing recess, avoiding plaster repairs, and work within the management's hours.
How long will the power be off?
For a typical single-phase board, about 3–5 hours. We prepare the new board first, move the circuits across in one go and test each before switching back on. 3-phase boards or extra circuits can take most of the day, and we tell you in advance.
