Why does my smart switch need a neutral wire?

Most Malaysian homes have only a live wire at each light switch. A smart switch needs constant power to stay on Wi-Fi, and the reliable way to get it is a neutral wire in the switch box. No-neutral models exist, but they can make LEDs flicker or glow when off.

We check each box first. If there is no neutral, we can often pull one through the existing conduit. Where cable is buried directly in the wall, a no-neutral model or a relay behind the light is the fallback.

What power does a CCTV system or autogate need?

IP cameras are usually powered through the network cable (PoE) from the recorder, so they need one good socket near the NVR. Analogue and Wi-Fi cameras need a power point near each camera, weatherproof and RCCB-protected outdoors.

An autogate motor needs a dedicated point at the gate, with cable run underground or along the fence in conduit. That is why autogate points cost RM350 to RM650: most of the price is the cable run.
